About The Demons - Club History

We are The Leeds Demons Basketball Club.

Formed in 2008 and 5 years later we are running two successful squads in the Leeds and District Basketball League.

We train/play twice a week:

Thursday 8-10pm - Team Member Only and Game Night
Saturdays 10am-1pm - Open Session

History !

We (a few people take part credit but really it was Andy Birkbeck who "got the band back together" and can take real credit), formed the Demons in 2008.

Moved the team from South Leeds Sports Centre to the ever helpful people at The Forum, Quarry House (or as we like to call it, home!).

Then we entered our first ever team into the 2nd division of the Leeds Basketball League, helped hugely by James Mead (of Juice Bars Fame) by supplying the kits and stuff we needed to get started!
Thanks Mr Jimbo!

2008 - Year 1
Our first year we finished around mid table which was a great result after having a sub par start to the season. It took several games to get that first win but god it was good when we got it!
That first win was with just 6 players, away at Armley Prison. Ouch!

2009 - Year 2
We then finished division 2 in first place in just our second season as a team, showing a vast improvement from the previous seasons performance and shocking some teams along the way with our progress as a team!
Anyone we upset on the way didn't matter, we were moving on up lol!

2010 - Year 3
Our first year moving up to division 1.
Possibly a struggle early on but we soon found our feet, we managed to finish around mid table which is great for entering a new division.
We only really struggled with the powerhouse Deighton Demons (who killed everyone that season and were quickly were put back up in the premier division) and Horsforth Hustlers 1 who have long been atop division 1.

2011 - Year 4
Our biggest season so far!
The Demons first year at running two teams.

Team 1 would remain in division 1 and Team 2 would begin back in division 2.
To put things into perspective, we are now looking for Team 1 to finish the season atop division 1. Which will be huge!

Team 2 struggled early on, and who could expect us not to, I have played several games now where my team mates hadn't even met each other before suiting up!

We can be forgiven teething issues I think. But after a strong second half we have every shot at finishing division 2 third or fourth. Now that would be a great result!

Both Teams managed to finish in second place in their division. Great result but Team 1 really deserved the title. Team 2 did great to finish where they did.

2012 Summer League
With a 9-1 record the Demons won the first Leeds Summer League held at the Headingley Campus Leeds Carnegie site.
A good way to spend the summer!

2012 - Year 5
A new league structure ahead. Only 2 divisions now. Team 1 in the top half of the pack for division 1. Team 2 looking to be mid table or better.
With the Leeds Summer League in it's first year, the Demons ever look to improve!

Update 2013
Leeds Demons 2 win Division 2 in convincing fashion. A huge achievement.
Leeds Demons 1 finish 2nd to Mandela Warriors moving up into the Premier/1st Division. Another huge achievement.
Demons 2 make Handicap Cup Final for the first time.
Demons 1 make Knockout Cup Final for the first time.
The first time a singular club has had both teams in a finals game.
A huge achievement.

2013 - Year 6
Losing a few players over the summer to other teams or moving away. The Leeds Demons face their biggest challenge, staying competitive during the transition!

With a great group of guys, this shouldn't be a problem!
